Coming Up: July 2

Council meets this upcoming Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

  • Petroleum Industry Update: a delegation from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers will be presenting to Council.

  • Library: a delegation from the Library Board will be speaking to Council.

  • Business License Bylaw: we’ll be debating recommended amendments to the Business License Bylaw. These are housekeeping matters to bring the Business License Bylaw into conformance with the new Fees and Charges Bylaw which Council recently passed.

The biggest question we will be considering: whether or not to go ahead with the next phases of the Downtown Rehabilitation in the spring.I am leaning towards supporting beginning phase three as soon as possible. However, Council will not be hearing detailed reports and recommendations from administration until later this week. I do have some hesitation, mostly to do with funding.

This week, Council will be going into budget deliberations... For operational spending, Council will be presented with three potential budgets.... We are also looking at the capital budget. I’m open to your input on any line. But I am especially looking for thoughts on the following two items: train whistles and the proposed performing media arts centre.
