Indoor Aquatics and The Leisure Centre

THE SHORT VERSION: Many see a need for another indoor pool. If elected, I will support the exploration of options for more indoor aquatics. However, planning needs to be in partnership with the County or other municipal neighbours. I doubt I would support any new facility that is not attached to regional funding.

Wrapped up in this conversation is the fate of the Leisure Centre. Due to the money involved and its attachment to the Composite High School, what to do with this facility is a very tough decision. Regardless, it has sat empty for too long. Our next Council needs to act to set a clear direction for this building. Read on for the long version of my thinking.

Last week I talked to a woman who was eighteen years and one week old. We had a long conversation, mostly about recreation. She had great ideas and awesome questions. I hope she stays engaged with where our City is going. I also hope to be the first person she ever votes for.

Living in Grande Prairie

In my job I get to spend a lot of time talking to teenagers. Something I love is listening to their plans for after graduation. I can’t help but notice that lots of these plans do not involve Grande Prairie.. A young person should never leave home because they feel there are no other options.

A Sustainable City?

Vehicles are interesting. Some people love them. Some hate them. Some are like me: we tolerate them because we need transportation for work and play. Most of us spend a lot of money on them.

It strikes me that having government is like owning a vehicle. Some people love to see government spend and regulate. Some resent every tax dollar and every rule. Some are apathetic to anything government does. No matter how we feel, we all spend a lot of money on government.
