If you are doing last minute research, you can find links to candidate websites and social media by scrolling down this page.

Not sure where to vote? Checkout the following list, or click here to get the City’s interactive voting station map.

An important note: this is NOT an official website for the City or election officials. I would encourage you to also consult the City’s election page at www.cityofgp.com/election.

Thanks for getting involved this election!

BALLOT INFORMATiON

There are no wards or constituencies in The City of Grande Prairie. Councillors, the Mayor, and School Trustees represent the City as a whole.

There are eight members of Council. That means you are allowed to vote for up to eight people. However, you also have the option of voting for less than eight candidates. Only putting a check next to the candidate(s) you most want elected strengthens their support.

 Voting information

Election day is Monday, October 18th, 10:00am - 8:00pm. You can see a map with your voting station here or read a list of stations by neighbourhood here.

If you plan to be out of town on Election Day, advance voting is available Oct. 8, 9, 15, and 16 at the Montrose Cultural Centre from 11:00am until 7:00pm.

Who can vote

To vote, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • A Canadian citizen

  • A resident of the City of Grande Prairie. Your residence is defined in Section 48 (page 31) of the Local Authorities Election Act. You can also contact the City's Returning Officer for clarification.

If you are not eligible to vote, you can still support candidates as a volunteer. Alberta residents are also eligible to donate. The most important way you can contribute to this election is by getting active in the conversation. One opportunity I have created for that is the GP Round Table.

Candidate forums, Q&A’s

As we approach the election, a number of organisations will be hosting candidate forums and Q&A’s. These are a great way to research and compare candidates.

Here are opportunities to compare candidates for Mayor and Council:

  • Public Library Reverse Forum: held on August 25. Non-profits and service organisations talked about their programs and their clients. Candidates were invited to ask questions to learn about needs in our community.

  • Intercultural Association Forum: two forums held on July 27 and Oct 3, focusing on how to make sure all people are included and cared for in our community.

  • Chamber of Commerce Forum: held on Sept. 28, this Forum covered a wide range of questions submitted by the public.

  • Art, Culture, and Heritage Forum: hosted on Oct. 5 by the Art Gallery and other organisations, this forum focused on enhancing the cultural landscape of Grande Prairie.

  • Friendship Center: hosted on Oct 12, this Forum focused on Indigenous issues

Here are opportunities to compare Public Schoolboard Candidates:

DEMOCRATIC PLEDGE

Politics at the federal and provincial level has some big problems. This has not happened at the municipal level, and there are candidates who have committed to keeping it that way. A number of candidates have signed a pledge to uphold the core democratic principles of focusing on local issues, staying independent, demonstrating transparency, and being respectful. You can learn more about this pledge in this video.

Candidates who have committed to this pledge (so far) include:

  • Jackie Clayton

  • Eunice Friesen

  • Bryan Petryshyn

  • Ejibola Folashade Adetokunbo-Taiwo

  • Grant Berg

  • Wendy Bosch

  • Dylan Bressey

  • Melissa J. Erickson

  • Yad Minhas

  • Solomon Okhifoh

  • Sarvinder Singh

  • Chris Theissen

Included in the pledge is a commitment to disclose campaign finances prior to election day. As disclosures get made, I will be posting links on this page.

Please be sure you take the time to vote.
